2016 ANNUAL BC OAPO CONVENTION

THE ANNUAL CONVENTION WAS HELD IN ABBOTSFORD BC WITH 8 BOARD MEMBERS INCLUDING REGIONAL DIRECTORS, 35 DELEGATES, 18 GUESTS, 2 GUESTS FROM COSCO AND 3 PROXIES FOR A TOTAL OF 66.

  • JERRY GOSLING WELCOMED EVERYONE TO ABBOTSFORD
  • SANDY BLUE PRESENTED A SHORT ADDRESS ON THE CITY AND THE ECONOMICAL IMPACT IT HAS ON THE FRASER VALLEY AND PROVINCE.
  • THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER WAS SAM MACLEOD, SUPT. OF MOTOR VEHICLES.
  • ISOBEL MACKENZIE, SENIORS ADVOCATE, WAS THE AFTERNOON SPEAKERS AND SPOKE ON SENIOR ISSUES.
  • RESOLUTIONS TOOK UP THE VACANT SPACE THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
  • WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, WAS WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY AND JENNIFER GAVE OUT PINS MADE BY THE LADIES IN BR. 129 SAVONA.
  • JENNIFER ANNOUNCED SECRETARY BETTY BOLTON WILL BE STEPPING DOWN AND URGED MEMBERS TO CONSIDER THE POSITION.
  • PEGGY GRAHAM GAVE THE TREASURERS REPORT; INCOME $34,948.42 EXPENSES $32,120.15 LEAVING A PROFIT JUST OVER $2500.00.
  • COSCO WORKSHOP PRESENTED BY ANNETTE O’CONNOR ON DEALING WITH STRESS.
  • JOANNE TAYLOR, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF NIDUS PERSONAL PLANNING RESOURCE CENTRE SPOKE ON ISSUES RELATING TO SENIORS.
  • KELLY PATER & CST TROY PETERS FROM THE ABBOTSFORD POLICE DEPT. SPOKE ON SENIOR SAFETY ISSUES.
  • THE REOLUTIONS FILLED THE DAY WITH 30 DEALT WITH AND A LATE ONE FROM  AGGASIZ-HARRISON BR. 113.
  • ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS COMPLETED THE DAY.
  • THURSDAY, JUNE 11TH, OPEND WITH 4 LATE RESOLUTION FROM CULTAS LAKE BR. 164.
  • BETTY BOLTON SPOKE ON THE SCHOLARSHIP SOCIETY AND THE NEED FOR MEMBERS TO VOLUNTEER FOR POSITIONS.
  • PRESIDENT JENNIFER GAVE HER PRESIDENTS REPORT.
  • PEGGY GRAHAM WAS ELECTED TREASURER AND JERRY GOSLING WAS ELECTED 1ST VICE PRESIDENT.
  • THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY WAS AWARDED TO BROOKSWOOD BR 132. LYDIA FRANCESCUTTI ACCEPTED FOR HAVING THE HIGHEST INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP.
  • JENNIFER ADVISED; MISSION BR 28 CELEBRATED 70 YEARS IN MAY, VERNON BR 6 CELEBRATES 60 YEARS IN OCTOBER AND AGASSIZ-HARRISON CLEBRATED 40 YEARS IN FEBRUARY.
  • LAKE COUNTRY BRANCH PROPOSED THE 2017 CONVENTION WITH AGASSIZ HARRISON VOLUNTEERING FOR A BACK UP.
  • THE CONVENTION ADJOURNED AT 11:45 A.M.
